What is Neethling Brain Instruments (NBI®)?
Neethling Brain Instruments (NBI®) is an international profiling method that is represented in South Africa, The Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, New Zealand, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, The USA and The UK. Originally in English, the products are available in the languages that are represented in those countries.
"Knowing your personal brain profile is the key to success and happiness in your career, relationships and personal well-being. Your brain is very unique…"

Dr. Kobus Neethling – Founder of Neethling Brain Instruments (NBI®) and the Kobus Neethling Institute (KNI®).
NBI® is a tool that helps you to understand your brain preferences, what drives your behaviour, what comes naturally to you – colloquially stated, how you are wired up. The NBI® Brain profile gives an indication of what drives how you: communicate, make decisions, approach problems, learn, teach, form relationships, buy, sell, act towards other people, etc.

This awareness helps you with personal effectiveness in your private and professional life and the awareness that people are wired up differently helps you to interact better with them. For example with a partner, a child, a team member, a team leader, etc. It also helps with career choice as well as placement of suitable candidates
NBI® is not a new fad. These instruments are based on tried and tested behavioural science principles that were first discovered in the 60s. The instruments were developed by Dr. Neethling as part of his post-doctoral studies in Georgia University under the research guidance of Professor Paul Torrance.

Because the focus is on brain preferences, the result is neither good nor bad. NBI® provides a brain profile which is a descriptive, objective analysis of the individual's preferences, with no profile being better or worse than another.
Most people are familiar with the fact that brain function is divided into left and right. Further study of brain function reveals the fact that brain function is further divided into the different quadrants (top and bottom). The following brain processes are in the quadrants as represented here, L1, L2, R2, R1.

It is important to note that this representation of brain function is not a schematic representation of the physical brain.
A major strength of NBI® is that it goes beyond the 4 quadrants. There are significant differences in the two dimensions within each quadrant so NBI® looks into the 8 dimensions as represented here. If you do not know the specific dimension of a quadrant a person has dominant preference in, you can only rely on guesswork.

NBI® eliminates the guesswork. An example is the difference between high preferences in the dimension Socialiser where the emphasis is ‘With whom?’ and the dimension Empathiser where the emphasis is ‘For whom?’
NBI® does not label you or put you in one of the quadrants or dimensions. You are not an L2 or an Organiser. Organiser, Socialiser, and others are names of dimensions and not labels for people. You are a unique human being. Your profile just indicates in which dimensions you have dominant preferences. No one has preference in only one dimension and zero preference in another. If that were the case, the world would be made up of 8 types of people. The world is made up of 8 billion unique individuals with unique combinations of preferences. NBI® sheds light on those combinations.
